Atmospheric Sketches Set #2

This second set is mostly from paintings. The upper two on the right are from photos. These were developed in much less time than the first set, and look are cleaner as well. I was trying specifically to improve the efficiency of my brushwork, and the precision of my color choices.

Section 1: Atmospheric Perspective and Color

- 6 paintings completed to a moderate level which demonstrate an awareness of the topic.
- 12 additional quick studies examining the subject in both an illustrative and photographic context.
- Focus on the content of the light and atmosphere, ie. interior/exterior, smoke, sun, fire, floodlight, rain. Many substances and light sources affect visibility in unique ways.
- Focus on how surface color is affected by atmosphere.
- Focus on how abstraction and simplification of form are created by atmosphere, and how this effect is utilized in the studied imagery.

Here are some of the images I'll be studying:

An Independent Study in Art

School seemed to get me drawing more than almost anything else I can remember. I enjoyed that feeling, and the improvement I experienced. So I've constructed this drawing course for myself in hopes of simulating some of that. The sections of this course run in roughly three week intervals. A lot of drawing is required for each of them (several hours, at least 3-4 times a week). Each section is focused on making drawings from reference, and then the gratuitous application of what is learned in original creations. Currently, I draw mostly with Photoshop, but any medium is allowed. As I tend to de-emphasize value in many of drawings, for what I assume is simply habit, these sections require in most cases at least half of the studies to utilize value or color, and all of the developed drawings must use value/color.
